Upscale Rocketry is a father and son team, consisting of Jay and Jacob Dennis, devoted to pushing the envelope of what is possible in high power rocketry. Our projects, as the name suggests, are mostly upscales of manufacturer kits. We try to take an idea that is a challenge at the model level, and make it work at the high power level. Upscale Rocketry had its humble beginnings in a fourth grade classroom in 1996, giving Jacob his first exposure to the hobby. Jay had some experience with model rocketry from his childhood and soon joined the ranks of the BARs. As they say the rest is history...to us at least. 2011 Update - Since our LDRS 26 appearance, much has changed for Upscale. Both Jacob and his older brother John have graduated from Arizona State University. John is now married and pursuing his Masters at the University of Arizona while working full time. Jacob is a for-real Rocket Scientist!. He obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Aerospace Engineering. While at ASU he was very active in the academic and research aspects of rocketry. His research projects focused on propulsion. He is now enrolled in the Doctoral program at Purdue University. He doesn't have as much time to build rockets, but is now our go-to guy for EX motors. Look for his contribution on the 14X Drake. Jay still builds the airframes, but can't do it all, so we often seek assistance from our buddies at Arizona Rocketry Team. Here's our 1/2 scale Patriot Missile Battery you might have seen at LDRS 29 and in Rockets Magazine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for visiting the site, and we hope that you come back and visit soon.
