There's something special about Gemini DCs. It's a cool kit, a tough build,
and an even tougher rocket to get right. For us, it's sort of the rocket that
got us into this hobby. Jacob built his first one in while in elementary school.
Being a protective dad, I warned him that it was a hard rocket to tackle and not
to be surprised if it failed. Of course, he had to prove me wrong. It was
beautiful build that we still have in our inventory.
Jacob was 11 when he decided that he should upscale a Gemini. I explained that a
large Gemini was impossible because the weight of the chutes would force them to deploy
at launch. 2 prototypes later, he proved me wrong. Jacob build 3x, 2x, 4x, and 3/4x
(yes a downscale) versions of the Gemini. We then tackled the 8x.
Clearly, Jacob knows how to build Gemini's. The 8x is the only true upscale we've ever
done. By that, I mean the 8x version was built to operate exactly the same way that the
2, 3, and 4x versions were built. The rocket was bigger, but the techniques we used were
basically the same ones that Jacob used when he was 11. The one change we made was to add a
nose chute so the rocket landed more softly
The Gemini made it's debut at Plaster Blaster 4 (2004). Our friends at Rubr Duky made thos great VIDEO. The following are several pictures and
a video of the launch. The rocket flew flawlessly and is enjoying a nice retirement in our garage.
